The town of Ketchum, Idaho, next to the Sun Valley resort, makes a fantastic home base for regional outventures stretching from the towns of Stanley to Hailey. This area holds amazing gems like the Sawtooth National Forest, which encompasses the amazing Cecil D. Andrus-White Clouds Wilderness, and the Pioneer Mountains.
The town of Ketchum, alone, is worth visiting. It is a small, charming town with little shops and boutiques, great restaurants, and all the outdoors equipment you need for great outventures. But the real draw of Ketchum, at least for us, is the amazing outdoor opportunities for hiking, mountain biking, and backpacking. The area seems to have almost an endless supply of beautiful scenery and trails.
The hiking and backpacking in the Ketchum area is world class, particularly in Sawtooth National Forest. It is hard not to find gorgeous views all over the forest and the trails are well maintained. Better yet, the trails are built to interconnect in many areas, allowing for excellent hiking and backpacking loops.
Then, there is the mountain biking accessible from Ketchum. Ketchum is known as one of the main mountain biking destination towns in the United States. With hundreds of miles of well built mountain biking trails, tons of backcountry riding, and lift accessed riding at Sun Valley, there is more than enough quality trail near Ketchum to fill a week’s vacation with just mountain biking.
Regardless of your preferred discipline, you will find outstanding hiking, mountain biking, and backpacking opportunities in Ketchum and its surrounds.
