Backpack for your health.  When we strap on a backpack for a longer OUTventure we get stronger in more ways than one.

BACKPACK FOR PHYSICAL HEALTH

Backpacking strengthens and tones our bodies due to the heavy load we carry as we move along the ups, downs, twists, and turns of the trail.  While we observe these physical changes on the scale and in the mirror, we seldom give thought to the other benefits to our physical health from a backpacking OUTventure.  Happily, regularly going out on backpacking OUTventures makes our hearts, lungs, and bones stronger too!  Backpacking can thus reduce incidences of chronic health issues such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, and cancer.  While feeling healthier and living longer are certainly excellent reasons to go backpacking, it also supports a healthy mind and spirit.

BEYOND THE PHYSICAL

After a backpacking OUTventure we may not notice the more subtle changes in our psyche, but they are there.  For one, our confidence is enhanced when we go backpacking.  Here’s why.  When we strap on a backpack and go on an OUTventure we often discover that we can do more than we thought we could.  Thus carrying everything we need on our backs and successfully surviving in the wild increases our confidence, and boosts our self-esteem as well.   Moreover, our creativity is enhanced when we go backpacking.

With mind and body focused on the tasks required for safety and survival, the noise of daily life is muted and our minds wander.  With mental quiet restored, we pose questions to ourselves about what we see, and we allow ourselves to just be in the moment.  It is precisely this space and freedom which rejuvenates our spirits.  The negative drains on our psyche which lead to stress, anxiety, and depression are momentarily disrupted.  Backpacking for your health is simply good for you.  Body, mind, and spirit.
